Global Prayers Theme Days 2012.
An event series at the Haus der Kulturen der Welt in Berlin
The Global Prayers Theme Days is an event series taking place at the Haus der Kulturen der Welt in Berlin from February 23 to 26, 2012.
Is there a return of the religious into the city? What influence do religious communities have on the formal and informal structures of urban space? What does spirituality mean to the inhabitants of these cities, and how do the politics and economics of hope work? What forms does missionary activity take today? What role does the media play in the creation of these movements’ global networks? These questions will be discussed at the Global Prayers Theme Days by an international, interdisciplinary panel of urbanists and cultural and religious theorists.
During four days, academics and artists will highlight religious phenomena and urban settings, strategies, and productions of meaning of religious players from metropolises around the world. In a series of discussions, lectures, sounds, films and photographic works, they explore the links between urban development and religious practices, between promises of spiritual redemption and social liberation.
